Alcoa supports integrated climate change solution.

Since the 1960s Alcoa has been recognised globally as an environmental leader for their efforts in mine site rehabilitation. Close to 50 years on, Alcoa remains at the forefront of environmental innovation and is leading industry efforts to address climate change, having reduced greenhouse emissions by 33% since 1990.

Alcoa is taking this leadership further through its commitment as a foundation sponsor of Greening Australia’s Breathe Easy program. This support builds on the significant and longstanding partnership between Alcoa and Greening Australia.

For almost three decades, this partnership has contributed in a practical way to repairing Australia’s unique landscapes, with over 12 million trees planted and extensive community environmental education achieved.

Today the partnership remains multi-faceted and is focused on three of the most critical environmental issues of our time – water resource management through River Recovery, community carbon emissions reduction through Make an Impact, and landscape restoration enabling carbon capture through Breathe Easy.

Alcoa was the first Australian corporation to develop a greenhouse footprint reduction kit with Greening Australia for its employees and is now working to share that knowledge with others – helping to build the community’s capacity in finding solutions to climate change.
